1982 - Florida - Challenged at Haines City High School for profanity and using God's name in vain
1987 - North Carolina - Challenged as supplemental reading at Newton-Conover due to profanity
1993 - Tennessee - Challenged at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School due to profanity
1998 - New Jersey - Herbert Hoover Middle School in Edison pulled and replaced the book with an abridged version that omits the short story "Way Up in the Air" that used racial language.
